Managing Deadlines
Hello everyone, introduce my name is Agung Prabowo, I am an 8th semester student from Singaperbangsa Karawang University and majoring in Informatics Engineering. I am currently participating in the Gigih 2.0 Program, a program initiated by the Anak Bangsa Bisa Foundation, an institution affiliated with one of the largest tech companies in Indonesia, namely Goto. In this article, I will tell you a little about workload management and also how to set deadlines.
In doing a job, we are often too confident to be able to do everything alone, or even we often fail to arrange a schedule between one thing and another and end up so that the things we do are not finished or not optimal. Of course we have to know the ways or steps to be able to deal with this path and so that it doesn’t happen.
Of course, we are already familiar with the term Time management, Time management is the process of organizing and planning how to divide your time between different activities. Get it right, and you’ll end up working smarter, not harder, to get more done in less time — even when time is tight and pressures are high. In terms of Time Mangament, of course, we also often hear about the Eisenhower Matrix, the Eisenhower matrix is a simple framework for prioritizing tasks and managing workloads. Simply put, this matrix helps us in compiling what things are priorities and must be resolved immediately.
When we are faced with a condition where we have to be fast and also precise in doing something, of course, time management skills, especially to manage deadlines, are very necessary.
I personally have several ways to be able to do time management well, including:
- Determine the priority scale
Yep, according to the Eisenhower matrix, the first way we need to do is to determine the priority and urgent matters that we must solve immediately, then for other things we can follow the steps that have been prepared in the Eisenhower matrix.
- Measuring one’s own ability
In addition to determining the things that are priorities for us and also urgent things that we must finish right away, we also need to measure our ability to do something, this of course helps us to arrange an appropriate schedule, for example when we have a task to work on a report, we first measure how long it takes to work on a report, if it takes us about 5 days, of course we will arrange a schedule of about 5–7 days to complete it.
- stay focused
It is very important for us to stay focused on doing something, stay focused helps us to do things more effectively and efficiently, and also helps us not to get tired easily by doing activities outside of the required activities.
- learn to say no
It has become a culture to be “uncomfortable” when we live in Indonesia, especially when we live on the island of Java. Often we “yes” to do something just because we are afraid of hurting that person’s feelings, even though at that time we also have a lot of work to do. Learning to say no really helps us to stay focused in doing things that are priorities and also urgent, but of course, in doing so, the rejection must be conveyed in polite language.
- Settings goals
Setting goals referred to here is like determining the goals of our own lives, such as what we want to be in the next year or something like this ideal. These setting goals really help us in determining what activities or things we should and should do, so that we hope that every activity and activity that we do can be done effectively and efficiently.
This article is a little sharing from my personal experience and how I am in time management that suits me so that I can continue to grow, hopefully this article can be useful for others. Feel free to discuss about this in the comment section.
thank you
